when is an artist not an artist?

Christo is famous for "wrapping islands" in pink plastic (they actually surrounded the islands and it wasn't plastic). And the "gates" in NYC's central park. In an interview Jeanne-Claude (wife of Christo) was asked about the bureaucratic hassles they have to endure to do their art. She responded, "that is the art".

If it's in a gallery,we say it's art - but if it's in a middle school, cafe, closet or stairwell, not as valued. Why? Many artists work a day job in order to do their art. Both, but the latter in particular distinguishes art from rest of life, but just as spiritual folks would say "everything is divine" - why not everything you do as an artist is art and you are always creating art?

my current project under construction is to measure my breath regularity (mindfulness). I am declaring that art is happening (as data is being collected for the art) when I am not "officially" doing the art. When I am not in the studio, gallery, or performance, every moment I have mindfulness, that's my art. Then whatever your experience, the experience itself, even doing your "Day job" or your chores aren't done in order to to the art, or seen as an interruption one must endure. All of it, all of life IS the art.

but of course, living in a capitalist society, if one wishes to earn their money from their art, then there are challenges this video doesn't offer a new paradigm, but invites a new way to discuss it.
